In a region that is known for everything ultra-premium and sophisticated, it isn’t surprising to know that the United Arab Emirates has some of the best luxury SUVs that money can buy. Of course, there are also many other types of luxury vehicles (land, sea, and air) in this country, but few ever manage to eclipse the wild success of a niche brand SUV. And while we are mainly talking about the UAE here, it must be noted that these vehicles are popular all over the Middle East.

The sheer number of models that fit into the “luxury SUV” category is absolutely perplexing and equally confusing. And as time passes by, we are sure to find more and more added to the list as automakers keep unveiling newer models. However, even though there is no lack of suitable options in the market, here is Cars24 presenting the top best luxury SUVs in UAE for 2021-22. At the end of the day, the UAE is one of the most prime markets for such kind of cars.

With so many people opting for SUVs, the United Arab Emirates has become like a mecca for these expensive status-symbol-on-wheels. Brands are constantly updating their model portfolio here, even launching region-specific variants – all in a bid to keep customer interest at peak. Therefore, even though they are really quite expensive, luxury SUVs do really well in this part of the world.

It is rather difficult to pin-point all the luxury SUVs that roam the streets of the UAE in one article, not kidding. Deep-pocketed buyers can have a tough time as well trying to figure out which large SUV they should be driving away in. Valid options come in from all corners – with BMW, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Lexus, Land Rover – all playing a crucial role in roping in people into their respective dealerships. Of course, brands like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti, and certain Italian breeds also have their own luxury SUV models for sale in the UAE.

And even while electric vehicles (including those of the SUV variety) are coming in hot and fast, the UAE will not run out of petrol-powered luxury behemoths anytime in the near future. This is not only down to the fact that petrol here is more affordable than in most parts of the worlds, but also because most car buyers in this section of the market tend to prefer old-school under the hood rather than just electric power. That said, Cars24 does have a vast list of second-hand cars in Dubai and several certified used cars in Sharjah for sale.

Lexus LX

Lexus LX front

There are few SUVs that can lay claim to being an excellent all-rounder apart from being one of the most admired (and reliable) luxury 4x4s in the UAE as the Lexus LX. The outgoing third-generation LX starts from 420,000 dirhams, though the model in itself has it roots set back in the mid-1990s. Sold by none other than Al Futtaim Motors, the Lexus LX is a full-size luxury SUV that has been drawing its brand reputation since its arrival in the UAE.

Lexus LX UAE

Of course, Cars24 does have more affordable cars for sale in Dubai – check them out if you are interested. Meanwhile, a brand-new Lexus LX comes in at 5,065mm in length, 1,980mm in width, 1,865mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,850mm. The LX’s other impressive numbers include its 138-liter fuel tank capacity plus an interior that can carry 8 occupants and a minimum of 259 liters of luggage. Keep no doubt, being based on the formidable Toyota Land Cruiser, this luxury SUV looks impressive on the outside.

As for its styling, this big brute comes with suave tri-beam LED headlamps with sequential LED turn indicators, a massive front grille, sporty yet muscular front & rear bumpers, large 21-inch alloy wheels, a split tailgate with chrome detailing, a roof spoiler, and sharp-looking tai lamps that also get sequential LED turn indicators.

Lexus LX rear side

While it looks a touch old-school compared to some of its closest rivals, the interior of the Lexus LX will impress you. It is not only very well-built and oozes of high-quality materials, but it also feels substantial and solid like a large SUV should on the inside. Sure, it may not look the most contemporary in terms of its design or styling, but the Lexus LX’s cabin is well-insulated and is also loaded with features. Some of the highlights here include soft-closing doors, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system, 12.3-inch infotainment system with 3D navigation, power-operated & climate-controlled front seats, a wireless charger, and four-zone climate control with Lexus Climate Concierge service.

Lexus LX cabin

Of course, that’s not all that you get in the Lexus LX. The luxury SUV also comes with Multi Terrain System with Crawl Control, adaptive air suspension, adaptive LED headlamps, radar-guided cruise control, surround-view cameras with front & rear parking sensors, a head-up display, electronic stability & traction control systems, Lane Departure Alert & Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and 10 airbags!

Lexus LX features

Sitting under the hood of the Lexus LX is a traditional but dependable V8 petrol engine. The 5.7-liter naturally-aspirated motor puts out 362hp and 530Nm of maximum torque and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. And while it may weigh as much as a small mountain, the Lexus LX can hit 100 kmph in 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 220 kmph.

Land Rover Range Rover

Land Rover Range Rover off-road

If you are looking to purchase a brand-new Range Rover in the UAE, you can do so by visiting Al Tayer Motors, which has dealerships in almost every emirate. Starting from around 450,000 dirhams, the Range Rover is not what one would call cheap. In fact, it is unarguably one of the best-selling luxury SUVs in the region. The Range Rover’s reputation for opulent luxury and off-roading prowess are both world-famous, even though it is not known to be the most reliable SUVs ever made.

Land Rover Range Rover front side

On the other hand, if you are looking for something a little less expensive, check out Cars24 for used cars in Abu Dhabi and/or pre-owned cars in Dubai. As for a new Range Rover, customers in the UAE can have their painted in one of at least 30 exterior colors! Some of the choices (free and optional extras) include Fuji White, Santorini Black, Carpathian Grey, Silicon Silver, Borealis Black, Windward Grey, Balmoral Blue, and Spectral British Racing Green just to name a few.

Land Rover Range Rover side

Land Rover sells the Range Rover in the UAE in Standard Wheelbase (SWB) and Long Wheelbase (LWB) forms. The former measures in at 5,000mm in length, 2,073mm in width, and has a height of 1,869mm and wheelbase of 2,922mm. Meanwhile, the LWB variant has an overall length of 5,200mm and a wheelbase of 3,122mm – the only other difference coming from the latter being shorter in height by 1mm. If you like your luxury SUV to boast an almost unmatched road presence and street credibility, then you cannot go wrong with the Range Rover.

Land Rover Range Rover front

When it comes to its exterior design, the Range Rover is undeniably as handsome as it is regal and posh. The stately front fascia of the Range Rover gets a chrome-laden honeycomb grille, sweptback LED Matrix headlights with the brand’s signature LED DRLs, a clamshell hood with ‘Range Rover’ lettering, and a beefy bumper that incorporates air intakes and a skid plate. The proportionate yet regal side profile of the Range Rover looks classy, but features swanky 21-inch wheels, a subtly drooping roofline, and gently molded body panels. Meanwhile, the suave yet sophisticated rear of the Range Rover gets a split tailgate with a chrome bar, full-LED taillights, a subtle roof spoiler, and twin-exhaust tailpipes.

Land Rover Range Rover rear side

The Range Rover is, without a doubt, one of the best-looking SUVs out there (bar none). And when you climb inside the Rangey, that feeling of richness and luxury continues. There’s quilted & stitched leather, high-quality wood veneer and brushed aluminium plus knurled finishes on various switchgear, touch-sensitive steering wheel controls, and throne-like seats that everyone loves about the Range Rover. Depending on the variant, the Rangey can seat either 4 or 5 occupants – in the former, you can carry up to 707 liters worth of luggage.

Land Rover Range Rover interior

As far its equipment list is concerned, the Range Rover can be had with stuff such as deployable side steps, a motion-activated powered tailgate, soft-closing doors, self-levelling air suspension, adaptive LED Matrix headlamps, adaptive cruise control, powered seats with climate-control & massaging functions, a panoramic glass roof, four-zone climate control, power-folding rear seats, an integrated refrigerator, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and Connect Pro tech, 10-inch rear-seat entertainment screens with wireless headphones, and a 28-speaker Meridian premium sound system among many others.

Land Rover Range Rover features

Understandably, the Range Rover comes with a whole raft of passive and active safety features. There is Collision Detection, High-speed Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Driver Condition Monitor, Rear Traffic Monitor, Clear Exit Monitor, Roll Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Stability Control with Electronic Traction Control, Trailer Stability Assist, surround-view cameras with all-around parking sensors, and an ample number of airbags, of course.

Land Rover Range Rover cabin

In the UAE, the Range Rover is offered with two petrol engines options. There is one variant that comes powered by a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 (with mild-hybrid technology) that makes 375hp and 450Nm of torque. Meanwhile, there is also one that gets a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 that chucks out 518hp along with 625Nm of twisting force. All Range Rovers get Land Rover’s new Terrain Response all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. In its most spirited avatar, the Range Rover (SWB) can go from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and hit a top whack of 250 kmph.

BMW X7

BMW X7 UAE

BMW has long been known to make some of the most sough-after SUVs in the world. The upscale German marque presented its flagship SUV to the world in 2018, and it is based on the brand’s popular Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. Underneath, the X7 is closely related to the uber-successful X5, and is the largest SUV BMW currently makes. In the UAE, if you want a brand-new BMW X7, you can approach AGMC (Dubai) or Abu Dhabi Motors (well, in Abu Dhabi).

BMW X7 front

In case your budget is lower than a brand-new X7’s 500,000-odd dirhams price tag, check out Cars24 for certified used cars in Dubai or old cars for sale in Ajman. In the UAE, the BMW X7 is available in around 6 exterior paint schemes – there’s Arctic Grey, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Sunstone Metallic, Vermont Bronze, and Mineral White. Being BMW’s largest SUV, the X7 is definitely not a petite vehicle. It comes in at 5,151mm in length, 2,000mm in width, and 1,805mm in overall height. As for its other important dimensions, the BMW X7 has a wheelbase of 3,105mm and a boot capacity of at least 326 liters.

BMW X7 side

Obviously, one of the most important considerations when buying an expensive SUV such as this has to do with its exterior appearance. And clearly, the BMW X7 is not one of those under-the-radar types of vehicles. If you are getting this, you want people to look at you. Enabling that is the X7’s large kidney grille at the front, flanked by sleek but svelte LED headlights with BMW’s highly-recognizable running lights. The front bumper of the X7 is large and sporty in equal measure, whilst the chiseled hood brings out this SUV’s sporting character.

BMW X7 rear side

The large proportions of the BMW X7 comes to light as you walk along its side. The sheer size and presence of this luxury SUV is quite impressive to behold in person. Just like in the 7-Series, the X7 also gets an extended chrome strip running between the front & rear fenders. Then there are the multi-spoke (and humongous) 22-inch alloy rims, enlarged wheel arches, geometrically-pleasing body panels, massive rear doors, and raised roof rails. At the back, the BMW X7 sports charismatic-looking LED tail lamps, a roof spoiler, an electronically-operated split tailgate, and dual exhaust-pipe surrounds.

BMW X7 interior

The interior of the BMW X7 shouts quality and build finesse like few cars can in this segment (or any). Like in any BMW, the driver-centric cockpit of the X7 feels purposeful yet comfortable – this is not a place of compromise. Moreover, there is just the right amount of practicality and space to make all occupants (well, almost all) feel nice and welcome in this cabin. Depending on how many boxes you tick at the dealership, the X7 will get Adaptive M Suspension, BMW Laserlight, keyless entry & go, five-zone automatic climate control, LED ambient lighting, a 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system, 10.2-inch rear entertainment screens, a panoramic glass roof, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel & touch-infotainment system.

BMW X7 cabin

Customers in the UAE can pick from one of two variants of the BMW X7 – the xDrive40i and xDriveM50i. The X7 xDrive40i comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six petrol engine that manages to produce 335hp and 450Nm of torque. Along with its 8-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel-drive system, this one can sprint to 100 kmph in 6.1 seconds. As for the X7 xDriveM50i, it gets a stonking 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that punishes all four wheels with 523hp and 750Nm of torque. This means that 100 kmph is breached in just 4.7 seconds, whilst top speed is limited to 250 kmph.

Bentley Bentayga

Bentley Bentayga UAE

If you have access to over 900,000 dirhams, then a Bentley Bentayga will come across as a really tempting proposition. In the world of luxury SUVs, the Bentayga sure does its niche badge justice by being not only fast but also ultra-luxurious. Underneath its expensive suit, the Bentayga is based on the same platform as the Audi Q8 and Porsche Cayenne. Since its entry into the luxury market back in 2015, the Bentley Bentayga is currently in its second generation.

Bentley Bentayga front side

One can acquire a new Bentley Bentayga from the British marque’s showrooms in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. However, Cars24 has an even more extensive collection of pre-owned cars in Sharjah and several more old cars for sale in Ras Al Khaimah. Bentley will offer Bentayga customers a brochure containing 8 different exterior shades, which further expands into a dozen-odd colors in each shade. Some of the examples of the Bentayga’s color options include Black Crystal, Moroccan Blue, Bentayga Bronze, Alpine Green, St James Red, Extreme Silver, Ghost White, and Magnetic over Rose Gold.

Bentley Bentayga front

In terms of its dimensions, the Bentley Bentayga drives in with measurements of 5,144mm in length, 1,998mm in width, 1,742mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,995mm. As for its luggage-carrying capacity, the Bentayga has a boot space of 484 liters. The Bentley Bentayga has a pretty dominant personality, though not what one might think is all that attractive. Up front, the Bentayga features twin-headlamp fixtures with ‘crystal-cut’ inner design, a large central mesh grille, and a macho bumper with enough sporty makeup to make some sports cars blush.

Bentley Bentayga side

The Bentley Bentayga has a profile akin to that of someone who gyms every day. Its body hosts flared haunches front & rear, 22-inch alloy wheels, sharp creases along the doors, the “flying B” trim on the front fenders, and a slightly sloped roof. The rear of the Bentayga is not all that eye-wateringly attractive. That said, it does come with gorgeous & oval-shaped full-LED taillights, a large roof spoiler, a well-sculpted tailgate, and oval twin tailpipes. While this may not be the most beautiful SUV in the market, it sure is eye-catching and unabashedly in-your-face.

Bentley Bentayga rear

Meanwhile, the interior of the Bentley Bentayga is full of expensive materials and optional extras that can run you into bankruptcy if you are not careful. You can make most of your neighbors jealous with the Bentayga’s cabin, because it features so much wood, leather, high-grade chrome and metal that it looks splendid yet modern. Of course, the seats are extremely comfortable and supportive – they shouldn’t have any issues holding you in place even if you drive a bit aggressively. While the design is quite contemporary, the Bentayga’s cabin comes packed with many modern features as well.

Bentley Bentayga interior

And while this is mostly a 5-seater, you can customize the Bentayga as a strict 4-seater as well. This cabin is spacious enough for its class, but it is definitely not palatial in its dimensions. Then again, that is me nitpicking. On the equipment front, the Bentley Bentayga is certainly not lacking. It can be had with items such as carbon-ceramic brakes, sports exhaust, radar-guided cruise control, automatic & adaptive LED Matrix headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, soft-closing doors, climate-controlled & massaging seats, a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, a 20-speaker Naim audio system, air ionizers, a rear touchscreen tablet controller, power-operated window blinds, LED mood lighting, and Bentley Dynamic Ride with active roll control technology.

Bentley Bentayga cabin

Taking care of the Bentayga’s safety are a plethora of airbags, electronic stability & traction control systems, a head-up display, Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Departure Alert with Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, auto-emergency braking, all-around parking sensors with 360-degree cameras, and plenty more passive & active nannies. If you want to go full luxury and opulent, then you got to pick the Bentayga Speed. Here, you will get a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 petrol engine that makes 626hp and 900Nm of maximum torque. This goes via an 8-speed ZF gearbox, propelling the Bentayga to 100 kmph in just 3.9 seconds!

Rolls-Royce Cullinan

Rolls-Royce Cullinan UAE

If there is one brand in the automotive world that can leave the others in the dust, it is Rolls-Royce. And if that is the case, then the Cullinan should be the ultimate production luxury SUV on sale right now. In the UAE, those who can afford this large SUV, can head down to an AGMC dealership and then write a check worth at least AED 2.1-million dirhams! If you must know, the Cullinan is based on the same platform as the latest Phantom (also known as the “Architecture of Luxury”), and came into being in 2018.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan front

Thankfully, for us mere mortals, Cars24 has an extensive list of certified used cars for sale in Abu Dhabi and several more second-hand cars in Dubai. The moment you start approaching the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, it becomes clear that this is quite a sizeable car. With measurements of 5,341mm in length, 2,000mm in width, and 1,835mm in height, the Cullinan occupies enough space to deliver the message of your societal hierarchy. And this being a Rolls-Royce, you can choose any color you want – even if it is ridiculous and multi-layered – Rolls-Royce will make it happen. As for its boot space, the Cullinan can haul a minimum of 560 liters of expensive luggage.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan side

Imagine spending all those millions and arriving in something that looks like a London taxi. Obviously, you don’t want that (so make sure you don’t pick a black Cullinan). However, the Cullinan has such a dominant presence that it will likely override lesser, plebian vehicles around it without much sweat. The tall but flat-ish front fascia of the Cullinan is home to the trademark Rolls-Royce (cheese-grater) grille, the enigmatic ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’, rectangular headlamps, and a multi-level bumper that integrates actual air intakes.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan rear side

Around the sides, the Cullinan sports massive wheels with RR’s famous weighted center caps. These are complemented by an almost-straight body lines, RR’s trademark suicide rear doors, loads of chrome, and a flat roof. Meanwhile, the rear of the Cullinan features stubby but sophisticated LED tail lamps, a sporty roof spoiler, a raked rear windscreen, an expensive chrome strip on the power-operated tailgate, and a butch bumper with some more chrome and dual tailpipes. This may not be a great-looking luxury SUV, but the Rolls-Royce Cullinan will surely be the envy of your neighbors.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan interior

Inside, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan blows past all the other candidates on this list – as far as luxuriousness, utter opulence and comfort is concerned. From the powered and soft closing doors to the variety of hide and wood on offer, you will not miss staying back at Burj Al Arab or Atlantis (The Palm). Not to mention, the quality of all the materials and their fit & finish is nothing short of exemplary. Furthermore, with so much sound-deadening methods used in here, you will likely hear your breath over & above anything else the Cullinan can produce.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan cabin

Apart from the coolness already mentioned above, some of the other features of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan include dynamic cruise control, fully adaptive LED headlights, self-levelling adaptive air suspension with RR’s famous ‘Magic Carpet Ride’, massaging and climate-controlled seats, hand-integrated LED ceiling lights with customer-customizable patterns, four-zone climate control, a rear refrigerator, a panoramic glass roof, wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot, and an infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and 3D navigation. Meanwhile, some of the Cullinan’s safety systems include Collision Warning, Cross-Traffic Warning, Lane Departure & Lane Change Warning, a surround-view camera, and multiple other safety-related protective measures.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan features

Powering the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is a mighty 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 petrol engine that puts out 563hp and 850Nm of peak torque. This is then routed via an 8-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels, thus rocketing the Cullinan to 100 kmph in a smidge over 5 seconds. Meanwhile, the governed top speed of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is 250 kmph.

Conclusion

As you can see, the United Arab Emirates is not going to run short of luxury SUVs in the near future. This is a market where ostentatious and stratospherically-expensive sell without much objection. Therefore, it makes sense why we have brands like Bentley and Rolls-Royce making their appearance on this list. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, the UAE will continue to have petrol-powered SUVs around for a long time to come.

Some of these luxury SUVs might even be suitable for those who want to drive them daily (as long as you can afford their extravagant running costs). On the other hand, some are mostly used occasionally, just because how special they are whilst you are behind the wheel or even in one of their passenger seats. Having said that, many owners of these rolling-palace-on-wheels will sell them once their warranty runs out.

One of the main reasons behind this is, as mentioned above, these vehicles’ hefty out-of-warranty maintenance costs and ridiculous depreciation. However, does any of these factors stop wealthy folks from buying these luxury SUVs? Absolutely not. This is indeed why the UAE is such a hotspot if you want to find these monoliths of luxury and displays of wealth rolling around without anyone raising an eyebrow. In all honesty, I find these SUVs to be pretty awesome and cool, even though most are not appreciated by those who love the ozone layer and are worried of climate change.
