As you can see, the SUVs listed here range from affordable soft-roaders to expensive performance crossovers and hardcore off-roaders. Given how much folks in the UAE love SUVs over standard cars, their popularity never really dips below the visible horizon. Of course, even in an easy-to-win-market such as this, there are certain models that come up on top quite easily.
For instance, all of the above-mentioned SUV cars are some of the best-selling and most popular in their respective segments. However, not all of them are similar and are usually built for a specific purpose. Proper SUVs usually come with a tough body-on-frame steel chassis, full-time/driver-selectable four-wheel-drive (4WD) system, a low-range gearbox with at least one locking differential, heavy-duty suspension & shocks, and an impressive amount of ground clearance. Good examples of an SUV include the Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol, and Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen or G-Class.
On the flip side, your standard crossover (also called a soft-roader) has been designed to take on the urban jungle. Crossovers are usually based on either a hatchback or a sedan, and are therefore built around a monocoque (unibody) chassis. This type of construction allows them to be lighter than typical SUVs, while also delivering better fuel economy and decent on-road manners. Being one of the most common types of cars, crossovers come in many shapes and sizes. Some of the examples here include the Nissan Pathfinder and the Toyota RAV4.
The final type of ‘SUV’ basically consists of cars that are versatile enough to perform certain off-road duties, even though they can be tuned to be extremely sporty in nature. These are the so-called sports/performance SUVs, and they are usually made by premium automakers – meaning, they are upscale and expensive. However, they make up for their steep price tag by being thrilling to drive, boasting up-to-date technologies and features, and a tangible desirability quotient. Great examples of performance SUVs include the BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, and Range Rover Sport SVR.
Do note that the entrants here have not been arranged in any particular order. All of these names sell in healthy numbers and are quite popular among buyers in the region. Moreover, all these SUVs are available in the used car market all over the UAE. In fact, the preowned or second-hand car market in the UAE has been growing with each passing year, with many viable options available on Cars24. You can buy a used car in Dubai, among other emirates, for a reasonable price on Cars24. Anyway, having said that, let’s get on with this and take a closer look at some of the best SUVs in UAE for 2023.

Toyota Land Cruiser
The legend of the Toyota Land Cruiser is as old as time, with the first road-legal production model rolling out of the factory in the early 1950s. While Toyota is still selling the old 200-series model, we will focus on the all-new 300-series Land Cruiser in this article. Where the old one was released back in 2007, the latest iteration comes in as 2022 model. However, it still built around a no-nonsense body-on-frame underpinning, just like the previous-gen Land Cruiser. Obviously, the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser comes with a lot more features than its predecessor.
In the UAE, the Toyota Land Cruiser (old and new) is officially sold by Al-Futtaim Motors and the prices start at AED 229,900. On top of that, there are plenty of used Toyota cars in Dubai (among other emirates) on Cars24. There are three variants on offer – EXR, GXR, and VXR. Being a full-size SUV, the Toyota Land Cruiser’s exterior dimensions are no joke. It measures 5,140mm in length and 1,990mm in width, whilst standing 1,890mm tall and featuring a 2,850mm-long wheelbase. As for its luggage capacity, Toyota has mentioned that it has increased the overall volume. While no specific figures have been released, the old Land Cruiser had 456 liters behind the third row. And just like the old model, the all-new Land Cruiser can also seat up to 8 people.
The basic exterior design of the all-new Land Cruiser hasn’t been changed by that much. However, few SUVs can claim to be as iconic, in terms of their styling, as the Toyota Land Cruiser. The 300-series model gets a massive front grille with an additional intake surrounding the main grille. It comes with slim LED headlamps, a substantial but sculpted front bumper, bold alloy wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches, functional roof rails, a large rear spoiler, a split-folding powered tailgate, and a flat rear-end with new LED tail lamps. The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser’s exterior colors include options such as Attitude Black Mica, Avant-Garde Bronze Metallic, Dark Blue Mica, Grey Metallic, Silver Metallic, and White Pearl Crystal Shine.
Over the years, the interior of the Toyota Land Cruiser has been updated with newer technology and more equipment. Top variants of the all-new Land Cruiser come with radar-guided cruise control, adaptive automatic LED headlamps with sequential LED indicators, Toyota’s Adaptive Variable Suspension, an electric sunroof, leather interior upholstery, four-zone climate control, Driver Memory function, ventilated front & second-row seats, wireless charging, a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system, 11-inch rear entertainment screens, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.
The safety tech found on the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser will satisfy almost everyone. There are up to 10 airbags, all-around parking sensors with surround-view cameras, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Trace Assist, Hill Assist Control, a tire pressure monitoring system, Lane Departure Alert, among others. The Land Cruiser comes armed with a full-time 4WD system that gets additional features such as Crawl Control, Multi Terrain Select with Multi Terrain Monitor, and an all-new Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS). This basically allows the Land Cruiser to disengage its anti-roll bars to provide maximum wheel articulation. There’s now also a separate front locking differential apart from the regular center and rear locking units plus a new Turn Assist Function.
The 2022 Land Cruiser has an approach angle of 32 degrees and a departure angle of 26.5 degrees. In the UAE, the Toyota Land Cruiser can be had with one of two petrol engines. There’s the 4.0-liter V6 with 271hp and 385Nm of torque, followed by an all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 409hp and 650Nm of torque. Where the 4.0-liter six-cylinder continues to be equipped with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the new twin-turbo engine comes with an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. Even with this 2022 Land Cruiser now on offer, the demand for the previous-gen model in UAE will remain high for a while.

Nissan Patrol
Just like its archnemesis Land Cruiser, the Nissan Patrol has been around since the early 1950s. It too is a full-size body-on-frame SUV from Japan, with the Y62 being the latest-gen model. Nissan has updated the outgoing Patrol several times since its debut in 2010, and the latest iteration comes in multiple variants and gets loads of modern features as well. As for its price in UAE, the Nissan Patrol range starts at AED 199,900.
Check other models of Nissan :
The Nissan Patrol is available in 9 different variants, ranging from the entry-level XE to the range-topping Nismo. It is primarily sold by the Arabian Automobiles Company in the UAE. Buyers can also shop for used Nissan cars in Sharjah and other locations like Dubai, Fujairah, and Abu Dhabi. Just like its Land Cruiser rival, the Patrol is a pretty large SUV. It stretches 5,315mm in length, 1,995mm in width, and 1,940mm in height. The Nissan Patrol has a wheelbase of 3,075mm and a luggage capacity of 468 liters behind the third row. Meanwhile, the SUV’s maximum occupant capacity is 8 people. The Nissan Patrol is available in colors like Gold Beige, Nuance Beige, Hermosa Blue, Metallic Slate, White Pearl, and Black.
With its most recent facelift, the Nissan Patrol looks more modern and sharper than its predecessor. The muscular front fascia of the Patrol is dominated by a large Nissan ‘V-motion’ grille, angular LED headlamps with split LED DRLs, and a sculpted front bumper & lower apron. The body of the Patrol is inarguably massive – the large & squarish wing mirrors, 20-inch alloy wheels, and an almost-flat facade make this SUV intimidating to approach even from the side. Meanwhile, the rear of the Patrol sports a roof spoiler, chrome garnish on the tailgate and on the reprofiled bumper, plus new LED tail lamps.
The interior of the Nissan Patrol is starting to show its age, even though it has been upgraded. Compared to its predecessor, the new Patrol boasts a twin-screen layout on the center console. The 8-inch upper display is meant for handling the infotainment system, while the 7-inch bottom panel can be used to control the HVAC system and GPS navigation (among others). Nissan has thankfully retained the physical buttons that enable & disable many of the car’s functions. Moreover, while the gauge cluster still uses old-school analogue dials, it is complimented by a crisp 7-inch digital MID in the middle.
The Nissan Patrol’s equipment list consists of several amenities. The luxuries include things like automatic headlamps with High Beam Assist, puddle lamps, keyless entry & go, a power sunroof, and power-operated & auto-folding door mirrors with memory function. Higher variants of the Patrol also get a premium leather interior with climate-controlled & power-operated front seats, power-folding rear seats, tri-zone climate control, a built-in coolbox, a 13-speaker Bose sound system, a rear-seat entertainment system with Bluetooth headphones, wireless charging, and Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.
To keep up with the rigors of modern-day safety norms, the Patrol comes with the Nissan Intelligent mobility suite. This brings in tech such as adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Warning, and Pedestrian Detection with Auto-Emergency Braking. The list of safety nannies on the Patrol also extends to features such as 6 airbags, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist, Lane-Keep Intervention, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Back-Up Intervention, an Intelligent Rearview Mirror, and an Around-View Monitor with Moving Object Detection.
The Nissan Patrol gets enough off-road features to ensure that you don’t get stranded too often. Some of the most noteworthy of the Patrol’s 4x4 wizardry sees the inclusion of a permanent four-wheel-drive system, a Helical Limited-Slip Differential with a rear differential lock, Nissan’s Hydraulic Body-Motion Control (HBMC), selectable off-road modes, and an active off-road monitor. In the UAE, the Nissan Patrol is available with two petrol powerplants – a 4.0-liter V6 that puts out 275hp & 394Nm and a 5.6-liter V6 that develops 400hp & 560Nm of torque. All variants of the Patrol are mated to a 7-speed torque converter automatic and independent double-wishbone suspension front & back as standard.

Chevrolet Tahoe
For all intents and purposes, the Chevrolet Tahoe began its life in the early 1990s. In its fifth-generation avatar now, the Tahoe has matured into a modern-enough SUV for the family. Riding on General Motors’ new GMT T1 architecture, the new Tahoe is even larger than its predecessor. Available in up to 4 variants, this Chevy SUV is sold via Al Ghandi Auto (Dubai) or Bin Hamoodah Auto (Abu Dhabi). On the other hand, one can buy second-hand cars in Abu Dhabi for a fair price via Cars24. Of course, there are several examples of decent used Chevrolet models on Cars24 in locations like Sharjah, Fujairah, and Dubai as well.
The Chevrolet Tahoe starts from AED 184,900 in the UAE, accommodating a total of 4 different variants. Sitting atop a rugged ladder-body platform, the Tahoe is an American SUV that is very popular in the UAE. Its massive dimensions definitely work in its favor – the Tahoe measures 5,352mm in length, 2,057mm in width, and 1,927mm in height. Moreover, the new Chevrolet Tahoe’s wheelbase of 3,071mm and luggage capacity of over 720 liters is definitely superior to its predecessor. Compared to many of its rivals, the Chevrolet Tahoe can carry a maximum of up to 9 people.
As far as the Chevrolet Tahoe’s design is concerned, it can be summed up like this – it is a large, heavy, and an intimidating American SUV. Depending on which variant you nab, the Tahoe comes with an all-black front grille, accompanied by sleek LED headlamps and angular LED DRLs. The large frame of the new Tahoe is further supported by large door-mounted wing mirrors, massive 22-inch alloy wheels, and an appreciable amount of ground clearance. The rear of the Tahoe comprises of all-new LED tail lamps, a flat roof spoiler, and a fairly-sculpted tailgate. Moreover, the Tahoe’s exterior color options include Cherry Red Tintcoat, Graywood Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, Empire Beige Metallic, Summit White, Shadow Gray Metallic, and Satin Steel Gray Metallic.
Chevrolet has gone ahead and modernized the interior of the Tahoe for good. While the gauge cluster gets an 8-inch color MID backed by analogue dials, the center console sports a tablet-like 8-inch infotainment system (with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay). Then there’s the 10-speaker Bose audio system, 12.6-inch rear-entertainment screens with dual wireless headphones, power-operated rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a dedicated fridge, ventilated & electrically-controlled front seats, and a digital rearview mirror among others.
The Chevrolet Tahoe’s safety functions include 6 airbags, ABS, all-around parking sensors, and electronic stability control & traction control. The Tahoe’s kit also takes into account Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Change Alert with Lane Departure Warning, and Blind-Spot Warning among others. The Tahoe’s off-roading strength is kept up by an Electronic limited slip differential that goes along with a Mechanical limited slip differential, Chevy’s Magnetic Ride Control, a 2-speed low-range gearbox, and a selectable Traction Select System.
In the UAE, the Chevrolet Tahoe is available with a good-old petrol V8 that pushes out 355 horsepower and 519Nm of twisting force. Keeping up with the American tradition is the fact that the Tahoe is not offered with any six-cylinder (or even worse, a turbo-four) engine in the UAE. However, the Chevrolet Tahoe comes with ‘Dynamic Fuel Management’ to improve fuel economy and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, the Tahoe’s height can be raised or lowered using the SUV’s ‘Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension’.

Jeep Wrangler
The Wrangler is one of those SUVs that seems to have a pedigree that outlasts most 4x4s. Jeep has been making these for a while now – the Willy’s being the very first. Today, the JL-series is the latest avatar of one of the world’s most recognizable SUVs ever. While it may only be a mid-size SUV, the Wrangler is an icon that traverses borders unlike few other nameplates. In the UAE, Trading Enterprises is the primary dealer when it comes to new Jeep models. Meanwhile, buyers can also find used cars in Ajman on Cars24. You will also come across a decent inventory of second-hand Jeep models via Cars24 in the UAE.
With prices starting from AED 144,900, the Jeep Wrangler is quite an affordable proposition, especially when it comes to this list. Keeping with the tradition, this SUV is available in both three-door and five-door versions – namely, the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited. As far as dimensions are concerned, the three-door Wrangler measures 4,237mm in length while the four-door Wrangler Unlimited measures 4,785mm. Both variants are 1,877mm wide, though their overall height varies between 1,867mm (hard-top) and 1,903mm (soft-top). In terms of wheelbase, the Jeep Wrangler boasts 2,460mm while the Wrangler Unlimited gets more, at 3,008mm.
There’s not much to comment upon when it comes to the exterior styling of the Jeep Wrangler. It is one of the most recognizable silhouettes out there, becoming a synonym for 4x4s all over the globe. The Wrangler gets Jeep’s trademark 7-slatted front grille, circular LED headlamps, protruding front & rear bumpers with built-in tow hooks, massively flared fenders housing 18-inch rims, a split tailgate, and boxy LED tail lamps. As for boot space, the Wrangler Unlimited is rated at 894 liters with the rear seats up. The Jeep Wrangler’s color choices are Billet Silver, Bright White, Granite Crystal, Firecracker Red, Snazzberry, Sting-Gray, and Hellayella.
Meanwhile, the cabin of the Jeep Wrangler JL looks fairly modern when compared to its JK predecessor. There’s even some faux stitching and soft-touch leatherette on the dashboard and doors, while the gauge cluster consists of two analogue dials backed up by a large central digital screen. The Wrangler’s features list includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a 9-speaker 552-watt Alpine stereo system, LED ambient lighting, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and a washable interior with dedicated drains.
The Jeep Wrangler’s equipment kit also includes items such as a limited-slip rear differential, lockable front & rear diffs, an electronically-controlled sway bar, Trailer Sway Control, a full-time 4WD system, and water fording depth of up to 762mm. The Wrangler Unlimited boasts up to 274mm of ground clearance, along with an approach angle of 43.9 degrees, breakover angle of 22.6 degrees, and a departure angle of 37 degrees. Just like its rivals, the Jeep Wrangler gets a low-range gearbox, plus two locking differentials and rigid axles that allow for extreme wheel articulation.
Jeep UAE will offer the Wrangler with two different types of powerplants. As before, the Wrangler will continue to get a standard petrol engine, which here is represented by a 3.6-liter V6 with 285hp and 353Nm of torque. The naturally-aspirated motor comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The V6-powered Wrangler can hit 100 kmph in about 7 seconds and a top speed of 185 kmph. Meanwhile, the Wrangler can also be had with a hybrid powertrain in the PHEV 4xe variant. This comes with a 2.0-liter petrol turbo-four engine plus twin electric motors that produce a combined 375hp and 637Nm of torque. The electricity in the Wrangler PHEV comes from a 17kWh battery pack.

Mitsubishi Pajero
The Mitsubishi Pajero has been around since the early 1980s, and is one of the all-time best traditional SUVs. Unlike other full-size 4x4s, the Pajero is a hybrid between an old-school body-on-frame SUV and a modern monocoque car. Mitsubishi did this by directly integrating the steel ladder frame to the actual body of the Pajero. It is unarguably one of the best-selling vehicles of its type in the UAE, with Al Habtoor Motors being the sole distributor. However, the Pajero’s days in the region might be numbered. Fortunately, with so many used Mitsubishi cars in Sharjah and Dubai (among other places), finding a second-hand Pajero won't be a challenge for buyers.
Mitsubishi has already pulled the plug on the Pajero in its home country of Japan, with several other markets likely to follow suit. In the near future, the UAE will also stop selling this venerable 4x4. For now, the Mitsubishi Pajero is available in three-door (5-seater) and five-door (7-seater) avatars and prices start from AED 96,900. The latter is obviously the more practical family transport, measuring 4,900mm in length, 1,875mm in width and 1,870mm in height. In comparison, the three-door Pajero is shorter by 515mm and 20mm in length and height, respectively. The Pajero is available in 9 colors that includes Sterling Silver, Deep Bronze, Black Mica, Platinum Beige, and White Solid.
The outgoing Pajero’s exterior styling has remained more or less the same since its debut in 2006. The wide stance of the Pajero gives it a sense of purpose and unfaltering demeanor. Meanwhile, there’s enough chrome on the outside to add an air of premium. On top of all the chrome, the Pajero sports fixed side steps, a boot-mounted spare wheel, large headlamps with HID projectors, LED DRLs, deep wheel wells that house 18-inch tires, and thick body cladding along the sides. As for its boot space, the Mitsubishi Pajero can accommodate a minimum of 215 liters of cargo behind the last row.
Understandably, the interior of the Mitsubishi Pajero looks dated and really quite last generation. There’s plenty of hard plastics in here and even the faux wood garnish doesn’t help matters much. Almost all the tech in this cabin is outdated, though everything works well and reliability remains strong. The seats are large and comfortable, while the expansive greenhouse makes this interior look and feel more spacious too. The limited features of the Pajero include items such as keyless entry, cruise control, automatic climate control, a large sunroof, leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Rockford audio system, and a 7-inch touchscreen head unit.
Despite its age, the Mitsubishi Pajero gets safety aids like a tire pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), ISOFIX anchors, parking sensors with a reversing camera, and up to 6 airbags. The Pajero comes fitted with Mitsubishi’s renowned and rally-inspired independent suspension, Super-Select 4WD II and All Wheel Control (AWC) systems. Furthermore, the SUV also comes with a lockable rear differential, a ‘shift-on-fly’ low & high range gearbox, and a maximum wading depth of 700mm.
In the UAE, the Mitsubishi Pajero is offered with two petrol engines. The base unit is a 3.0-liter V6 that produces just 174hp and 259Nm of torque, whilst the larger 3.8-liter V6 makes 240hp and 327Nm. Both engines come with a 5-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. As far as on-road performance goes, the Mitsubishi Pajero is clearly not brisk – that’s understandable considering its antiquated 5-speed gearbox and a naturally-aspirated petrol engine. The top speed of the Pajero 3.8 is 200 kmph, while that of the 3.0-liter is 175 kmph. Acceleration figures are nothing to write home about either as even the former needs nearly 11 seconds to hit 100 kmph.

Lexus LX
With prices starting from AED 420,000, the Lexus LX is the upmarket version of the Toyota Land Cruiser. While the all-new 300-series has just been unveiled, the outgoing LX is still based on the previous-gen Land Cruiser 200. This full-size luxury SUV has been around since 1996, with the third-generation model arriving just over a decade later. Lexus showrooms in UAE are located in places such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman among other emirates. Similarly, shoppers will come across many pre-owned cars in Fujairah. Cars24 also has an extensive list of used Lexus cars in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Used Lexus models can be had for a pretty neat sum, though there are pricier options too.
The Lexus LX has four main trim levels – Premier, Platinum, Signature, and Signature Black Edition. As it is based on the Land Cruiser, the Lexus LX’s dimensions are noteworthy. It is 5,065mm long, 1,980mm wide, and 1,865mm tall. Meanwhile, its wheelbase of 2,850mm and fuel tank capacity of 138 liters are identical to that of its more affordable cousin. Similarly, the Lexus LX can also seat up to 8 people and its boot space (behind the third row) is 259 liters. Exterior color options of the Lexus LX include Sonic Titanium, Sonic Quartz, Starlight Black Glass Flake, Deep Blue Mica, and Terrane Khaki.
It might be a big and boxy SUV, but the exterior of the LX has few key takeaways. At the front, there is a massive radiator grille with the brand’s latest grille design – if the opening were any larger, the LX might start sucking up small mammals. Furthermore, the LX features tri-beam LED headlamps, sequential LED indicators, stylish 21-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and an electronically-operated split tailgate. As far as equipment is concerned, the Lexus LX’s kitty is not at all lacking. The SUV gets adaptive headlamps, adaptive air suspension, soft-closing doors, radar-guided cruise control, four-zone climate control with Lexus Climate Concierge, power-operated & climate-controlled front seats, wireless charging, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with 3D navigation.
The Lexus LX also trumps the Land Cruiser when it comes to sheer quality of materials used in the cabin. Not only does everything feel well-bolted and assembled, the touchpoints feel as posh and expensive as this SUV’s price tag indicates. Interior space is not an issue in the LX, whilst the increased sound insulation means that the cabin remains quiet and civilized most of the time. On the safety side of things, the LX comes with 10 airbags, Lane Departure Alert & Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a head-up display, ABS with EBD, electronic stability & traction control systems, all-around parking sensors, and surround-view cameras.
While it may be a luxury SUV, the Lexus LX is still very much an off-roader under that fancy suit. It gets the Land Cruiser’s Multi Terrain System with Crawl Control, a full-time four-wheel-drive system, and a solid rear axle. However, unlike the Land Cruiser, the LX doesn’t come with various off-road-specific modes, but most people won’t miss that. The Lexus LX is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 petrol engine that pushes out 362hp and 530Nm of torque. This naturally-aspirated motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The LX is capable of reaching a top speed of 220 kmph and breaching 100 kmph in 7.7 seconds.

Mercedes-AMG G63
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an SUV that will not look out of place whether it is in the desert or parked in front of Ritz Carlton. The G-Wagen, as it is fondly known as, oozes of charisma and almost unbeatable off-roading prowess. Moreover, in the UAE, the G-Class is the vehicle of choice for members of various royal families. This, by default, elevates this SUV’s status to a stratospheric level and makes it extremely desirable. Even though there are two main variants of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, it is the AMG G63 that’s actually the most popular one.
The Mercedes-AMG G63 starts from around AED 695,000, while the standard G500 is about 100,000 dirhams less expensive. In the UAE, Mercedes-Benz cars (including the G-Class) are sold primarily by either Gargash Enterprises or the Emirates Motor Company. Having said that, you can find several reasonably-priced used cars in Ras Al Khaimah. While the G-Wagen has been around since the late 1970s, the latest model came into being in 2018. The boxy exterior of this SUV is as old as time itself, making it instantly recognizable as nothing other than a G-Wagen.
Compared to some other 4x4s on this list, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is not all that huge in size. Of course, that’s not to say that it is small. The G-Class comes in at 4,817mm in length (including the rear-mounted spare wheel), 1,931mm in width, and 1,969mm in height. On the other hand, the wheelbase measures 2,890mm while boot capacity stands at a solid 667 liters. In terms of its color choices, the Mercedes-AMG G63 can be had in Obsidian Black, Iridium Silver, Magnetite Black, Rubellite Red, Emerald Green, Jupiter Red, Night Black Magno etc.
The G63 is characterized by its AMG-specific front grille, more aggressive bumpers, bolder-looking alloy wheels, and a bunch of ‘AMG’ badges. Compared to the old model, the new G-Wagen’s interior looks far more special and premium. Mercedes has kept the front grab handle, dedicated switches for the locking differentials, and the flat-ish design of the windows unchanged – the rest of this interior has been thoroughly updated. The modernization has led to Mercedes sticking its large dual digital screens to the dashboard of the G-Class, while also integrating better sound insulation, better materials, and a more convenient layout of switchgear.
The Mercedes G-Class is still only a 5-seater, but the cabin is now more comfortable and better built. Moreover, the G63 AMG gets a lot more features over the base G500. Some of the most notable features of this SUV include adaptive LED headlamps, adaptive dampers, dynamic cruise control, keyless entry & go, multi-zone climate control, heated, ventilated & massaging front seats, a Burmester premium surround-sound system, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The Mercedes-AMG G63 is crammed full of safety tech that includes up to 7 airbags, Active Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Active Braking Assist, electronic stability & traction control, ISOFIX anchors, and a 360-degree camera system.
Under the hood of the Mercedes-AMG G63 is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that sends 585hp and 850Nm of torque to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Even though the G63 weighs over 2.4 tons, AMG’s magic means that this SUV can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds. While that nose raises up and you get pushed into your seat, this brick-like unaerodynamic monolith will hit 240 kmph (if equipped with the AMG Driver Package).
Of course, with three independent locking differentials, a full-time 4WD system, a rigid rear axle, a tough body-on-frame construction, and a computer-controlled low-range gearbox, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is very capable off road. Coming to its off-road metrics, the G-Wagen can wade waterbodies up to 700mm deep, while affording an approach angle of 30.9 degrees, a breakover angle of 25.7 degrees, and a departure angle of 29.9 degrees. And in its stock form, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has a ground clearance of 241mm. Overall, the Mercedes-AMG G63 is not only fast, but it also really good off-road.

BMW X5
Among the mid-size luxury SUVs, few names ring a bell as well as the BMW X5. When much of the world was focused on making SUVs practical and affordable for the whole family, the Bavarians were planning on making a sports utility vehicle that you would love to drive. Coming online in 1999, the BMW X5 invented the term “SAV” or “Sports Activity Vehicle” – something the brand uses to this date. If BMW says its cars are a “driver’s machine”, the likes of a sporty SUV worked in their favor.
One of the premier distributors of BMW cars in the UAE is AGMC, which is present in the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi (amongst others). The price of the BMW X5 in UAE starts from around AED 395,000, with variants including the 40i xDrive, 50i xDrive, and the X5M Competition. Meanwhile, AGMC also sells pre-owned BMW cars in Dubai. There are also many other second-hand cars in Umm Al Quwain on Cars24. Based on the brand’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, the new BMW X5 measure 4,922mm in length, 2,004mm in width, and 1,748mm in height. The X5 usually houses 5 occupants and has a boot space of 645 liters.
The BMW X5 in UAE is available in colors such as Alpine White, Arctic Grey, Black Sapphire, Mineral White, and Phytonic Blue. On the design front, the X5 gets BMW Laserlight headlamps, a large twin kidney grille, sporty front & rear bumpers, flared fenders, 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, a sporty roof spoiler, wraparound LED tail lamps, and twin or quad rear exhausts. The BMW X5 really set the stage for future performance SUVs, and even its design is somewhat of a testament to vehicles of this kind.
On the inside, the BMW X5 looks as premium and modern as the automaker claims it to be. The build quality is second-to-none, while the materials used really make this “SAV” stand apart from SUV cars in its segment. The driver-oriented layout of this cockpit brings a 12.3-inch touch-infotainment display that gets Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a 12.3-inch part-digital driver’s display, BMW’s Virtual Assistant, a twin-pane sunroof, three-zone climate control, a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon premium sound system, and BMW’s Digital Key.
This being a modern-day German car, the BMW X5 comes with loads of safety tech. Some of the most vital ones here include a full complement of airbags, dynamic stability & traction control, adaptive cruise control with pedestrian detection & auto-emergency braking, lane-departure warning with blind-spot monitoring, and a surround-vie camera system. The large wheels on the upper variants of the BMW X5 might make its cabin a little noisier and the ride a little stiffer, but this is still a fantastic all-around performance SUV.
As far as on-road performance is concerned, even the entry-level 40i xDrive does a good job. Its 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged straight-six petrol engine makes 335hp and 450Nm of torque. Mated to this six-cylinder motor is an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox that spins all four corners. This results in the BMW X5 40i xDrive going from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.5 seconds, while topping out at 243 kmph. There’s also a 50i xDrive that makes 456hp and 650Nm out of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. With this V8, the BMW X5 goes from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds and hits a top speed of 250 kmph.
While the X5 gets Hill Hold Assist and an electronically-monitored active all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, it is tuned for on-road performance. BMW never really intended for the X5 to go off-road. Anyway, the BMW X5 is a performance SUV, not a proper body-on-frame 4x4.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Starting from just under AED 430,000, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport is undoubtedly one of the most liked luxury SUVs in UAE. The outgoing second-generation Range Rover Sport was launched in 2013, with the most recent facelift coming about in 2017. The main distributor of Land Rover vehicles in UAE is Al Tayer Motors, with showrooms dotted across Dubai, Fujairah, and Sharjah. On Cars24, buyers can also buy used cars in Sharjah for a fair price. As for used Land Rover cars in UAE, the Range Rover Sport is one of the most popular.
While the Range Rover Sport is a size smaller than the actual Range Rover, it is still a large car. It measures 4,879mm in length, 2,073mm in width, and 1,803mm in height. Moreover, there’s 780 liters of space behind the second row, which makes this quite a capacious boot. And just like the standard Rangey, the Sport sold in the UAE is also a 5-seater. The Range Rover Sport is available in over a dozen exterior colors including Byron Blue, Carpathian Grey, Firenze Red, Indus Silver, and Narvik Black.
For the new Range Rover Sport, Land Rover has taken much of the exterior styling cues from the Velar. This means that the new Sport looks absolutely stunning and really suave, not to mention that it does exude sportiness. The hunkered-down stance of the Range Rover Sport melts well with its svelte LED headlamps, muscular front bumper with large air intakes, chunky 20-inch wheels, dual-tone paint, full-LED tail lamps, and a sporty rear fascia that integrates dual-exhaust pipes. The exterior look of this SUV sure makes it a big hit among buyers in this segment.
Land Rover has also updated the interior of the Range Rover Sport, making it even more upscale and desirable than before. There’s no dearth of high-quality materials and trim, while three high-definition screens dominate much of this cabin’s experience. Furthermore, there’s quite a lot of leather, aluminium, and gloss black trim on almost every interior surface of the Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Sport’s features list is healthy too. It gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10-inch digital driver’s display, adaptive dampers, radar cruise control, ventilated & heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, 360-degree cameras, and self-leveling suspension among others.
The Range Rover Sport’s safety list is just as impressive, with features that range from multiple airbags to Blind Spot Monitoring, Collision Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Condition Monitor, Rear Traffic Monitor, and Automatic Emergency Braking. In the UAE, the Range Rover Sport can be had with at least four different petrol engine options. Also, all variants come with four-wheel-drive as standard and get an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engines range from a 3.0-liter V6 that cranks out 355hp and 495Nm of torque to a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 in the SVR that produces 567hp and 700Nm of torque. Do note that the 3.0-liter engine now gets a Mild Hybrid Electric system for improved efficiency and performance.
The base Range Rover Sport can get to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds, whilst the manic SVR can do the same in only 4.5 seconds. As for its top speed, the Range Rover Sport SVR is one of the fastest SUVs on the planet, capable of hitting a top speed of 280 kmph. However, being a Range Rover, the Sport will also be really capable if you take it off-road. The SUV comes with Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system, along with All Terrain Progress Control, Active Ride-Height Control, and a maximum wading depth of up to 850mm. In terms of its off-road specs, the Range Rover Sport has an approach angle of 26 degrees, a ramp breakover angle of 21.2 degrees, and a departure angle of 26.2 degrees.

Porsche Cayenne
The Cayenne was Porsche’s answer to the BMW X5 and was launched back in 2002. It too is a mid-size luxury SUV, combining excellent on-road dynamics with respectable off-road performance and a laundry list of modern and high-tech features. The Cayenne is one of the most commonly spotted SUVs in UAE, plus there are Porsche dealerships in almost every emirate – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and even Fujairah.
Meanwhile, there are many examples of certified pre-owned Porsche Cayenne models in the UAE. However, you will also find many more second-hand cars for sale in Dubai on Cars24. As for the new Porsche Cayenne, its range starts from AED 329,400, while customers have up to 6 different variants to choose from. The standard color options available for the Cayenne include Carrara White, Moonlight Blue, Jet Black, Rhodium Silver, and Mahogany Metallic to name a few. As for its exterior dimensions, the Porsche Cayenne measures 4,918mm in length, 1,983mm in width, and 1,696mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,895mm, a boot capacity of 656 liters, and can carry 5 people.
Since its introduction nearly 20 years ago, Porsche has kept tweaking the exterior design of the Cayenne. Compared to its predecessors, the outgoing model looks both contemporary and sporty. The Porsche Cayenne gets a strong but sleek front fascia with full LED headlamps and the brand’s signature LED DRLs, large air intakes, a streamlined but taut body, stylish 21-inch alloy wheels, flared fenders, a sporty rear spoiler, twin or quad tailpipes, and full LED tail lamps with a beautiful full-width LED light bar.
In typical Porsche fashion, the cabin of the Cayenne hosts wonderful materials that are of the highest quality. There’s also loads of fancy equipment and toys to keep occupants entertained, while the seats offer excellent support and comfort. The sporty cockpit of the Cayenne features a customizable gauge cluster with high-definition displays, while a 12.3-inch widescreen touch-infotainment head unit houses most of the other in-car functions. The layout of all the buttons, dials and switches makes this interior feel really sporty and ultra-premium. Some of the Cayenne’s cool gadgets include LED ambient lighting, adaptive air suspension, dynamic cruise control, a surround-sound Burmester audio system, adaptive comfort seats with memory & massage functions, quad-zone climate control, and wireless Apple CarPlay.
The Porsche Cayenne’s safety suite brings a head-up display, Night Vision Assist, Active Parking Assist, Lane Keeping Assist plus Lane Change Assist, Collision Detection with Braking Assist, and at least 6 airbags. Porsche offers the Cayenne in the UAE with multiple powertrain options, including petrol and petrol-hybrid choices. The base variant of the Cayenne comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that develops 335hp and 450Nm of torque. It is plenty quick too, going from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.2 seconds and hitting a top speed of 245 kmph.
The Cayenne is also available with a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 (in the S variant) that belts out 434hp and 550Nm. However, if money is no object and you want the fastest and most exciting Cayenne, Porsche also sells the Turbo S E-Hybrid in UAE. This one gets a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that’s also mated to an electric motor to put out a combined 671hp and 900Nm of torque. Therefore, even though it weighs over 2.5 tons, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid will reach 100 kmph in only 3.8 seconds! As for its top speed, this Cayenne can do 295 kmph. All Cayenne models get an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system as standard.
The Porsche Cayenne (with air suspension) boasts an approach angle of 27.5 degrees, ramp breakover angle of 21.3 degrees, and a departure angle of 24.4 degrees. Meanwhile, this SUV’s maximum ground clearance is 245mm and its maximum water wading depth stands at 530mm. While not a proper 4x4, the Cayenne does get Porsche Traction Management, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, five off-road modes, and an optional Off-road Package that adds skid plates plus extra reinforcements for the underbody.

Nissan Pathfinder
With the mid-size crossover SUV market booming, cars such as the Nissan Pathfinder have been really popular with buyers. First introduced in the mid-1980s, the Pathfinder has gone through several model generations and multiple facelifts. The outgoing fourth-generation Pathfinder is by far one of the best-selling SUVs in UAE, being based on the same platform as the Nissan Maxima. Arabian Automobiles Company is an official distributor of Nissan cars in UAE, with dealerships located in Sharjah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain.
Moreover, there many used Nissan cars in Dubai on Cars24. There are plenty of pre-owned cars in other locations such as Sharjah, Ajman, and Abu Dhabi – the list even includes previous-gen models. The outgoing Nissan Pathfinder is available in 3 trim levels, while prices start at AED 134,500. Exterior color choices include shades such as Caspian Blue, Scarlet Ember, Dark Brown, Magnetic Black, and Gun Metallic. As for its dimensions, the 7-seater SUV measures 5,008mm in length, 1,960mm in width, and 1,783mm in overall height. The Pathfinder has a wheelbase of 2,900mm and a cargo capacity of 453 liters (with the third row up).
The Nissan Pathfinder is a crossover/soft-roader, unlike some of the SUVs on this list. Its exterior design language mostly consists of soft curves and gentle body contours, which some buyers may not prefer. However, the Pathfinder does get Nissan’s ‘V-motion’ front grille, sweptback LED headlamps, sculpted front & rear bumpers, 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, prominent roof rails, a rear spoiler, and wraparound tail lamps. The Pathfinder may not be the most aggressively-designed SUV in the market, but its size does afford it some presence on the road.
The interior of the Nissan Pathfinder is a spacious and comfortable place. It makes good use of lighter tones while also integrating a few dark tones, plus there’s also some faux wood inserts to make this cabin feel premium. There’s enough versatility and room for all occupants, even those sitting in the last row. Moreover, the beige theme and the expansive split sunroof of the Pathfinder means that this interior feels roomy and airy. The Nissan Pathfinder gets features like a hands-free tailgate, keyless entry with push-button start, leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, power-adjustable & heated front seats, a 13-speaker Bose audio system, cruise control, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
On the safety front, the Nissan Pathfinder sports 6 airbags, Blind Spot Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Traction Control System, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, ISOFIX anchors, and a 360-degree camera system. The outgoing model of the Nissan Pathfinder is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine that puts out 271hp and 340Nm of torque. It comes paired to a CVT automatic gearbox that drives all four wheels via an all-wheel-drive system. The Pathfinder can hit a top speed of 190 kmph, while 100 kmph will come up in 8 seconds.

Toyota RAV4
Starting from AED 89,900, the Toyota RAV4 is the most affordable SUV on this list. It is also extremely popular in its segment and is available in 5 different variants. In the UAE, Toyota has showrooms in almost every nook & corner, so finding a new RAV4 will be a cakewalk. As one of the very first crossover SUVs in the world, the Toyota RAV4 has been around since the early-1990s.
The fifth-generation RAV4 arrived in 2018, and its color options in the UAE include Cyan Metallic, Dark Blue Mica, Red Mica, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, and Urban Khaki. You can find several second-hand Toyota cars in Abu Dhabi and other used-car markets in the UAE. Unlike the Nissan Pathfinder, the Toyota RAV4 is a strict 5-seater in UAE. It is also understandably more compact in comparison. The RAV4 is 4,600mm long, 1,855mm wide, and 1,685mm tall, while its wheelbase measures 2,660mm and boot space stands at 580 liters.
The design of the new Toyota RAV4 is a marked upgrade over the old model. Depending on the variant, the RAV4 can be had with two different styles of front grille, different front & rear bumpers, plus two unique designs for the alloy wheels (that go up to 19 inches). The new RAV4’s front fascia looks more aggressive than before, while it also gets sleek LED headlamps. Furthermore, there are also pronounced wheel arches, plastic body cladding, a roof spoiler, stylish LED tail lamps, and dual exhaust tips at the back.
On the inside, the Toyota RAV4 gets soft-touch materials on the dashboard, armrests, and doors. The interior also makes use of different textures and colors, which certainly make it seem interesting. Moreover, the materials used are fairly good, while there’s enough space for 5 people inside the RAV4. Some of the most noteworthy items in the cabin of the Toyota RAV4 include the panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7-inch MID in the gauge cluster, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, an 8-inch touch-infotainment system, and a powered driver’s seat with memory function.
The RAV4’s safety features include 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, front & rear parking sensors, Vehicle Stability Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. In the UAE, the Toyota RAV4 is only offered with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. However, it comes in two different versions: one of the powertrains is a hybrid, so it gets an electric motor for better mileage and performance. The standard engine (without any electric motors) makes 203hp and 242Nm of torque. It drives either front wheels or all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Meanwhile, the RAV4 Hybrid comes with the same 2.5-liter petrol engine, but it is now also assisted by two electric motors. The engine makes 220Nm of torque, while the whole system brings the combined output to 219hp. As for the gearbox, the RAV4 Hybrid is fitted with Toyota’s new eCVT or Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission. Moreover, unlike the base petrol variants, all RAV4 Hybrids come with all-wheel-drive (AWD) as standard.

Conclusion
From the above list of SUV cars in UAE, it is clear as day that there isn’t a dearth of them in the country. Of course, some are more popular and sell in bigger volumes than others, but that is to be expected. While only a few of these models are brand-new, most of them have been revised or updated in the recent past. Old-school SUVs such as the Mitsubishi Pajero and Jeep Wrangler have a remarkable fan base in the UAE, whilst the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Pathfinder also find buyers easily.
In the same sense, the likes of the BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, and Range Rover Sport continue to sell well within the segment they operate in. On the other hand, the Mercedes-AMG G63 is an absolute icon in the region, with other SUVs such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Lexus LX being crowd favorites too. The Nissan Patrol is unarguably one of UAE’s best SUV models of all time. Finally, there’s no forgetting the immense success that is the Toyota Land Cruiser. If there’s one SUV that could dominate them all (in terms of its sales numbers and popularity), the Toyota Land Cruiser is almost uncontested in the UAE.
Find leading SUVs that are perfect for you at CARS24!
