New-gen Mercedes CLA: what to expect?

Mercedes CLA

As per the official information, the new-gen CLA will be based on the MMA platform. This architecture allows EV and ICE version construction subsequently. Hence, we can expect the CLA EV and petrol variants to launch altogether in the UAE. The new-gen CLA will replace the current Mercedes A-class which has not been doing well in sales as per the company's expectations.

Mercedes CLA

The electric version of the new CLA will be the first Mercedes to support 800V architecture which has been derived from the EQXX concept model. The electric variants will be standard rear-wheel drive but the 4MATIC versions will get an additional front axle mounted 107 bhp motor for more grip. The EV versions will be able to support battery sizes of up to 85kWh producing 268 bhp of peak power. A special two-speed transmission has been developed for the EV version, for better performance and higher efficiency.

Mercedes will offer the electric CLA with two battery options - 58kWh (LFP) and 85kWh (NMC). The maximum driving range could go upwards of 700 km as per the company. Also, the charging time for 10-80% is just 10 minutes as it supports a 320kW fast charger.

Mercedes CLA

The petrol CLA will be a front wheel drive car as standard and it will be powered by a new 1.5L turbo-petrol engine. It will use a 48V mild-hybrid battery for powering the car with an additional 27 bhp. It can be driven up to 100 km/h in pure EV mode in the hybrid variant. The 1.5L engine will be sold in three different power outputs - 134 bhp, 161 bhp, and 188 bhp. The petrol version of the new-gen CLA will also get the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The mileage figures for the petrol version have still not been revealed. However, we assume that the least power output version will easily deliver upwards of 15 km/l.

New-gen Mercedes CLA: UAE launch time, price, and rivals

Mercedes-Benz has completed the development of the new-gen CLA. It means that the car could debut in the coming months; possibly in the first quarter of 2025. After its global debut, Mercedes will launch it quickly in its top-priority markets like the UAE itself. Therefore, we can safely expect the new CLA to reach our shores by mid-2025.

As it will replace the current A-class which is priced from AED 228,900 in UAE, the CLA could be priced well above it. We expect that it could be positioned around AED 240,000 for its base variant. The prime rivals for the new-gen CLA will be the Audi A4 and BMW 3 series.

Our verdict

The previous-gen CLA was a classy model loved by customers for its unique styling. As far as the representative images by Mercedes look, the new-gen CLA will be an evolved version of the previous model. Not only it will look good but we expect its powertrain options to be quicker and more efficient than ever. Tell us in the comments what you think about the upcoming Mercedes CLA model.
