Toyota Celica comeback - is it really happening?
It all started in 2023 when Toyota's Chairman Mr. Akio Toyoda commented to the magazine 'Best Cars' that he has been pursuing the top management to approve the new-gen Celica. However, the 'Celica' storm of unanswered questions died out a few months after this report. But, soon after, Mr. Tsuneji Sato, President of Toyota, revealed that he wishes to create a new Celica; which also happens to be his beloved car. And recently, 'Celica Mk8' words appeared on a whiteboard in Toyota's anime series. So, is it really happening? Is Toyota bringing the Celica back?
Each of the above hints can be ignored or denied but the recent statement, that has confirmed the new Celica, comes from the recent 2024 Rally Japan event. The same 'Best Cars' magazine has asked Mr. Toyoda once again about the Celica. However, he did not confirm but asked the Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Hiroki Nakajima to answer it, to which he replied - "We will make the Celica". There, he said it! In fact, he even added, "So, I do not know if it is okay for me to say this".
The report also hints that Toyota is working on four new 1.5L to 2.0L turbo-engine capacity motors. These engines will power an array of four-door and two-door rear-wheel drive and mid-engined body shells in the distant future - including the new-gen Lexus IS.
This clearly means that the iconic 'affordable sports car' of Japan is on its way to making a comeback. But, when will it launch? Well, as of now, we have no idea.

Our verdict
Toyota cars in the UAE are among the best-selling vehicles. These are known for their bulletproof reliability and powerful performance. However, the breed of car enthusiasts is no small in the Emirates, and this specific audience is peculiar about their cars. Cars like the Toyota Celica were made for this niche, for the drivers who wanted fun and reliability together. Now, the return of this iconic sports car from Japan could prove phenomenal in the global markets, including the UAE.
