To make the UAE roads even safer, the new traffic rules aim towards stricter penalties for drivers to jaywalkers. The new updates are as follows:
1. Driving age lowered to 17
While age is a crucial factor, the UAE has revised the driving license age from 18 to 17 now. In 2025, individuals with 17 or above will be able to appear for driving tests and obtain a driving license in the UAE.
2. Jaywalking penalty increased
Jaywalking has been a serious offence in the UAE. However, it is often found that people cross the roads in undesignated areas, leading to accidents. From 2025, jaywalking in the UAE will attract fines ranging from AED 400 to AED 10,000; even including jail time in case of serious mishaps.
3. Stricter fines for driving under the influence
